Descriptions and Attire Requirements
Intro to
Dance: This 45-minute dance class is designed for our youngest
students (2-3 yrs.)! Little dancers love to move and pretend; we utilize
these natural tendencies to gently introduce them to the dance world.
Students will learn how to work in their own body space, wait their
turn, and to respect the studio and the teacher. Classes include
stretching, use of props, and basic beginner ballet taught with a
creative approach and lots of imagery. Welcome to dance class!
Attire: Pink leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers. Hair
must be secured back away from face.
Creative
Combo: This one-hour ballet/tap combo is geared for children in the
3-4 yr. age group, this class includes a short warm-up, gentle
stretching, taking turns across the floor, creative movement, and
development of balance, rhythm and motor skills. These are skills that
will prepare them for future dance classes in any discipline from ballet
to hip-hop. We make learning fun by using props like scarves, bean bags,
and instruments to keep the children engaged and active. Attire:
Pink leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers and black patent tap
shoes. Hair must be secured back away from face.
N.Y.K:
Our Next Year Kindergarten class was created for
student’s in pre-school who will be attending kindergarten the following
September. Students will begin training in various forms of dance,
learning basic to beginner steps from each technique. Parents will be
given updates and evaluations from the instructor, and be provided with
insight into the best dance placement for your child next year. This
exciting program guides our students and parents through the world of
dance, while preparing them for the expectations of their upcoming
kindergarten classes. Attire: Black leotard, pink tights, pink
ballet slippers and black patent tap shoes. Hair must be secured back
away from face.
Ballet: As "the foundation for all dance forms" ballet serves as
an excellent opportunity to enhance the students individual qualities,
raise their technical level and foster their sense of artistry and
grace. Emphasis is placed on understanding proper placement,
coordination, musicality and the joy of moving the body through space.
Beginner, intermediate and advanced placement is available. Attire:
Black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers. Hair must be
secured in a bun.
Pointe:
By invitation only. This class is designed for students who already
understand and are able to execute a wide range of ballet vocabulary.
Class begins at the barre and moves to center floor, where movement
phrases are aimed to develop balance and coordination. Emphasis is
placed on proper alignment, correct direction of all movements,
musicality and movement and transitions. Students must be at least 13
years of age to be considered for pointe work. Students must also be
registered in a ballet class in order to participate in pointe classes.
Attire: Black leotard, pink tights, pointe shoes, and ballet
slippers. Hair must be secured in a bun.
Tap: A
brisk and vibrant way for students to develop strong musical sounds as
well as ease of motion. Rhythm tap vocabulary is developed using
exercises which emphasize clean sounds and musicality. The class
includes some straight rhythm work as well as combinations ranging in
styles from Broadway to improvisation. Tap is designed to strengthen the
student's technique as well as rhythm. Students will have the
opportunity to work on their listening skills as well as strengthening
their tap sounds and quality. Beginner, intermediate and advanced
placement is offered. Attire: Black dance attire and tap shoes.

Jazz: A
rhythmic and dynamic style that enhances a student’s grace, style and
attitude. Focus is on breaking down turns, leaps, placement, connecting
movement so it flows and building a dance vocabulary. Class begins with
a comprehensive warm-up focusing on strength and technique. Floor-work
emphasizes stretching and conditioning. Choreography is both expressive
and vigorous. Combinations are always fun, challenging and diverse. Jazz
is a great supplement to any hip-hop or ballet class. Beginner,
intermediate and advanced placement is available. Attire: Black
fitted dance clothes, character shoes (intermediate/advanced level),
jazz shoes, and knee pads. Hair must be secured back away from face.
Lyrical: This class consists of training the body as an
instrument of artistic expression. Emphasis is on development of
flexibility, strength, coordination and awareness of the principles of
motion. The study of dance as an art form is explored within the lyrical
class. Students will learn to feel the choreography rather than
simply execute the movements. This is a great companion to any jazz or
ballet class. Beginner, intermediate and advanced placement is
available. Attire: Black fitted dance clothes, dance paws. Hair
must be secured back away from face.
Broadway Jazz: This one-hour class
includes lyrics for songs, staging, entrances and exits, props and
costuming. This class is a great way to enjoy another style of jazz
while we re-create scenes from some of our favorite Broadway shows.
Children will receive copies of show tunes and lyrics to bring home for
practice as they will become more and more familiar with stage
performances of the past and the present. Attire: Black fitted
dance clothes, black character shoes (no taps). Hair must be secured
back away from face.
Hip-Hop:
This class allows the student to develop the physical strength and
pure attitude of a true hip-hop dancer. Warm-up focuses on strength,
stretch and isolations. These high-energy classes include a variety of
techniques, including: poppin', lockin’, house, freestyle, and street
moves. This class is a necessity for any dancer who dreams of being on
tour with their favorite recording artist! Beginner, intermediate and
advanced levels are offered. Attire: NO STREET CLOTHES or STREET
SNEAKERS. Sweatpants and shorts preferred. Sancha dance sneakers.
Competition: By invitation only. Rigorous and adrenalin
pumping, this class pushes its students to meet their highest
achievement. Competition classes compete in several competitions
throughout the year, showcasing original choreography from its
instructors. Competition entries range from tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballet
and lyrical. All classes emphasize technique and strength. Warm-up
includes breaking down turns, leaps, placement and musicality. This
class is for the serious dancer only! Junior and senior placement is
available. All students in competition classes must be registered in
ballet and or lyrical, jazz and hip hop.
